On Fathers Day there was a huge discovery found in the Hunter's backyard. We had never seen anything like it before. While we were at church Brother Hunter's Mom was in the kitchen, and saw it. It came looking like a black cloud, and landed in their tree.
Do I have you curious yet?
I am sure you are all familiar with this picture.
Seeing Winnie The Pooh being followed by a swarm of bees is not all that uncommon, but bees dont really swarm like that right!?
Wrong.
What do you do when you get 28,000 bees hanging out in your back yard? Just chillin' in your tree? Thats right TWENTY EIGHT THOUSAND!
You think I am kidding?
Take a look at this!
Luckily there are crazy people out there called bee catchers, and thank heaven for them. This is not something I would like to deal with. Brother Hunter called up a lady that lives up on Grandview Hill, they catch bees and keep them in their backyard for the honey. She came over (even though it was Sunday) and scooped them up. Naturally this was a once in a lifetime opportunity to watch. So, we kept what we thought was a safe distance and watched as she climbed up the latter with a bucket to get them out of the tree.
You're thinking this could be kind if dangerous right?
Well, I guess as long as she gets the queen bee in the bucket all the others will follow the smell that she secretes. so, she got the majority of them in her bee box (including the queen bee) and by the end of the night all the bees were in the bee box with the queen.
right after she got them down there was a little bit of an initial swarm, but they stayed around the tree...for the most part...there were a few rebellious bees.... unfortunately those rebellious ones were attracted to my legs....
I am DEATHLY afraid of bees because of being stung so many times (one of those times, the one that really did the most damage, was on my tongue.) .... so my initial reaction was really to go running away screaming, and hope they fly away. Well, she said that if I just stood there, calmly (yeah right) they would get tired of being there and they would fly away because honey bees are different they are not aggressive and don't just sting people. I didn't really believe her due to the fact that before she got there Nick, Tanner and John had all been stung . So there I stood, holding my pants tight against my legs so that they didn't get UP them.
(Just one of my little bee friends)
After a few minuets went by and they were still on my legs, she went and got a bee brush (a really soft brush) and brushed them off of me, and nobody got hurt, but boy howdy...I felt like I was just waiting for bombs to go off. Longest 5 minutes of my life!
Whew....
